Ron Wheeler

About Ron

Ron Wheeler’s woodturning journey began the old-fashioned way—scrolling Facebook! After spotting some bolt-action pens online, he mentioned them to his brother-in-law, who casually revealed he had just started making pens himself. One garage tutorial and a tool list later, Ron was hooked—and the rest is history.

Ron now specializes in turning pens and other small treasures using wood, resin, and hybrid materials (just don’t ask him to turn black palm again!). He’s a familiar face at the Bella Rustina Vintage Market in Conway, AR, where he shares his passion as a vendor.

Beyond his own turning, Ron is deeply committed to giving back. He volunteers weekly at the North Little Rock VA, teaching disabled veterans how to turn pens—a hobby he believes brings both joy and healing. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a fellow pen fanatic, Ron’s always ready to share knowledge and a good laugh.

You can find Ron listed on our Mentor page, or connect with him on Instagram @pensbypoparon and Facebook at Pens N Such By Popa Ron.
