I have been turning wood most of my life, toys, occasional tool handle etc.
Got more serious around 2000 after the big ice storm, since there was an abundance of wood available. Again, mostly odds and ends, gavels, magic wands some furniture parts and architectural components for house trim all done on a Sears Craftsman tube lathe (no reverse or variable speed, change belt/pulley).
About 2012, I had access to a Delta reeves drive (500 rpm-?) with all the foibles inherent to that type of system, but much better that changing belts, but still no reverse capability.
In 2015 I purchased a Grizzly GO733, variable speed with reverse. What a game changer.
I enjoy trying all different type of turning, such as
Therming
Off and multiple axis turning
Inside out turning
Anything else that is different from the everyday.
I still like to grab a bowl gouge or skew with a piece of wood between centers just to see where it takes me.
I can be found most days in my shop maybe ankle deep in shavings just having a good time.
